Tree Fern Courtyard Garden
The brief was to create a child friendly garden with a beautiful view from both the house and the outdoor office. Planting scheme to include plants which attract bees with a purple and pink colour scheme.
The garden had already been hard-landscaped, I was brought in to create a Planting Design.
It had been noted that the kitchen and family room could get hot during the summer months, so we planted a mature Olea europaea (Olive) and Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Cratus' in planters around the outdoor seating area to create a space where you feel immersed in plants, the plants in turn make the garden and kitchen cooler.
The higher level terrace features atmospheric Dicksonia antartica (tree ferns) which block out views of neighbouring houses. The planting scheme includes two focal point Olea europaea (Olive), Pittosporum ‘Nanum’, Salvia ‘Caradona’ Stipa tenuisima, Eringeron and herbs for cooking.
The retaining walls were a safety concern, framing them with cube planters with Punica granatum 'Provence' (Pomegranate) solved this issue.
A water butt was fitted next to the office with guttering hidden behind the office.
We are absolutely thrilled with the work Nicola did on our garden. We have now used her twice (the first time was on a courtyard garden at our previous property, and this time on our new house’s back garden) and each time Nicola has produced beautiful, peaceful, yet strikingly fresh garden spaces. Her aesthetic skills and practical knowledge are first-rate.
I can say that we felt supported at every point from the initial planning, to refining, to execution. The care taken by Nicola to select the best possible shrubs and trees and to plant up our garden was evident. Each element was given such loving attention that every plant got off to the best possible start!
The “after-care” element of Nicola’s service is also brilliant. The garden manual she produced for us is first rate and it has helped us immensely in keeping our garden looking pristine. We would highly recommend her and would use her again and again.
